does it hurt your credit to close out long standing credit cards in good standing? If so why?

I was going to consolidate two credit card onto a new lower interest card and cancel the old cards. However, I was informed that closing the old cards would not look favorably on my credit report. I thought this was strange as good credit reflects on your credit report for 10 years and keepin the old card open whould make your debt ratio higher. Can someone explain this to me?

I have two credit cards, luckly only totalling about $1,500. Im a college student and used them for books. They are under collection and i still have the oppertunity to pay them off, which i am planning on doing anyway. BUT they are still going to be on my credit for the 7 years right? And If i pay them off, will it improve my credit rating atall, will they show up as paid off on my credit report? Or will paying them off do anything atall since they are so overdue.

I have a rough beacon (550) and in need of a 2nd car as my wife and I are sharing one. I just want to get a 5000-8000 loan and have payments around 300-350 a month. I do not want to go to a nuy here pay here dealership. I would rather deal with an individual selling a car.

I have over $100,000 in credit on my 7 or 8 credit cards, all with a 0 balance. I am facing foreclosure in a few months. Will the banks cancel my credit cards once I get a foreclosure on my credit? Should I just max out all my credit cards with no intention to pay them?

Why does the blue book and bank loan prices differ on car loans?

I’m researching a used car. Kelly Blue Book and NADA guides state the value of the car at between $5500 and $6300. I’ve haggled the sale price down to $4800. However, the bank Ive spoken with about the loan says they can only loan $3500 on the car. Why is there such a discrepancy between the estimated value and loan value?
